Form Table Café by Normann Copenhagen
Design: Simon Legald, 2016
Form Table is part of the Form family of contemporary furniture. In this range simplicity is a key element.
The Form Table is made of oak and linoleum, which are high-end natural materials that add durability and give the table an exclusive look. The matt linoleum is pleasant to the touch and easy to maintain. The same goes for the lacquered oak legs, which are mounted to the table using the same innovative cup system as the Form Chairs.
As an addition to the Form dinning tables is a smaller café table in three different heights. The tables are adjusted to the Form chair and the two heights of Form bar stools, so that they complement each other proportionally. The Form café table is particularly well suited to the decor of bars, restaurants, lobbies and receptions, but will also work perfectly in a kitchen’s little eating area in private homes.
Despite their individual traits, the Form Chairs, the Form Barstool and the Form Tables share the same design DNA. This is reflected, among other things, in the way the tabletop and legs are bound together using a specially developed principle similar to the one used for the chairs and stools. This makes it possible to achieve a frame construction reminiscent of the bases of the chairs.
The tabletop and its rounded edges also have clear references to the Form Chairs. In addition, these give the Form Table its craftsmanship finesse. The Form Table has a tabletop covered with linoleum and cross bars and legs are made of solid, FSC certified American oak. Highly qualified furniture craftsmen make the wooden frames. The legs and cross bars are sanded by hand after they have been cut. After this, the parts are assembled using the moulded connectors. The tabletop is made of plywood, which has been lacquered at the edges. A layer of laminate is used to cover the tabletop in order to increase its strength and ensure an even surface, so it doesn’t begin to bulge over a long period of time. Finally, the table is finished with a layer of linoleum cut by hand for an exact fit. Linoleum is a durable material, which is easy to maintain. It is also resistant to scratches.
Linoleum is made of a combination of linseed oil, resin, limestone, saw dust, and natural pigments and it is known to be a highly functional material with anti-bacterial properties. Furthermore, it is very comfortable to the touch and has a beautiful matte finish. Together with the warm glow from the oak, this makes the Form Table calm and harmonious to look at.
