Design Kerstin H. Holmquist, 1956
The Adam Lounge Chair is designed by the Swedish designer Kerstin H. Holmquist during her employment at Nordiska Kompaniet, NK, in 1958. Adam is the masculine piece of Holmquist’s Paradiset Collection, where all names are inspired by “Paradiset” – the Swedish name for Eden or Paradise.
With its sculptural and organic form, the Adam Lounge Chair holds a soft simplicity with an air of romance. The armrests run over smoothly into the high back and provides elegant, round and embracing curves with optimal support. Combine the lounge chair with the ottoman Fig Leaf or its counterpart Eva Lounge Chair.
Following the successful launch of Greta M. Grossman iconic designs at last years Salone del Mobile, Gubi is proud to have acquired the rights to yet another amazing Swedish female modernist designer. In 2014, Gubi will introduce the Paradiset Collection, designed by Kerstin Hörlin-Holmquist in 1956. This timeless and iconic collection was created during Holmquist's employment with NK - Nordiska Kompaniet in the 1950's and holds a soft simplicity. All designs are unique in their appearance - light, clean lines and gracious with an air of romance.
She named her pieces inspired by "Paradiset" (Swedish name for Eden or Paradise). The first piece was the feminine lounge chair - Eva Chair and later followed its masculine counterpart, the Adam Chair. To compliment the two lounge chairs she also created a sofa - the Paradiset sofa.
