Canada/USA Shipping Overview

We offer free standard/ground shipping within Canada (excluding the territories) and the contiguous United States on orders over $199 before taxes. Customers may opt to pay a $5 fee at checkout to add a signature requirement to their delivery. This add-on is included on all shipments to the USA. Orders less than $199 or located outside the aforementioned destinations will be subject to a minimum $20 shipping fee, calculated upon checkout. For Canadian purchases, taxes on both your order and shipping will be charged according to the shipping address. A shipping surcharge may apply to certain items based on their size, weight, and destination. These fees are independent of the free shipping offer.  

If your entire order is in stock, you can expect it to ship within 72 hours and to receive an email including tracking information shortly thereafter. 

In the case of products tagged Available to order, shipping will occur once all items in your order have arrived to us. Once shipped, an email including tracking information will be sent to the email address provided at time of purchase. Should you require an order to ship in segments, a small fee will apply. Most orders are shipped using Canada Post, Fedex, UPS, Purolator, GLS, or Canpar. For larger items, we use specialized third party freight carriers such as Day & Ross and M&O Transport. All deliveries will be completed curbside, unless otherwise requested and paid for by the customer. Please contact us at to inquire and/or make arrangements for an in-home delivery. 


International Orders

International shipping fees quoted at checkout are an estimate only and are subject to adjustment to cover our costs in shipping to your location. A member of our team will be in touch shortly after receiving your order to collect additional payment so that your order can proceed. To expedite this process, customers outside of North America are advised to email us at prior to making a purchase so that we may provide you with a one-time payment link.

The Modern Shop cannot control and is not responsible for any duties/taxes applied to your package. You will be responsible for paying additional charges for customs clearance. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; please contact your local customs office for further information.

We are proud to support sustainable brands building products to last a lifetime (or longer!) and appreciate your patience with the time such quality work can take. Shipping Materials

We make every effort to minimize our ecological footprint by recycling boxes and packing material wherever possible. Remember: it’s what inside that counts! Thanks for understanding and appreciating this small step we have taken to keep waste out of landfills. 

Unclaimed, Stolen & Returned Packages

If a package is unclaimed and returned to us, it is the responsibility of the customer to pay return shipping charges. 

We strongly suggest customers living in apartment complexes or other high-traffic areas add a $5 signature requirement to their order, as we do not guarantee against theft. If you have paid for a signature and your order is lost or stolen, we will file a claim with the carrier for you and re-ship your order as soon as possible. The signature requirement is included on all shipments to the USA.
