Stelman Chair - Arm Left by Pastoe
The Steltman Chair is Gerrit Rietveld’s final design, created at the age of 75. With its clean lines and geometric planes, the chair forms an asymmetrical composition that reveals a new perspective from every angle. Its apparent simplicity makes it a quintessential example of Rietveld’s design philosophy and an enduring international design classic.
Rietveld designed the chair for Steltman, a jeweler in the The Hague, as part of a new store interior. Two mirrored chairs were positioned by a glass counter where customers selected jewelry and wedding rings. In this setting, they acquired a symbolic meaning: two distinct forms that together create a unified whole.
