The Zwaan armchair by Gerrit Rietveld, designed in 1958, is one of his most elegant furniture pieces. The chair was designed for the World Expo in Brussels and later found its place in the press room of UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris.
While Rietveld’s work is often defined by clean geometry and a distinct De Stijl signature, the Zwaan reveals a softer expression. Flowing lines replace right angles, giving the design a sculptural silhouette in which functionality and aesthetics merge naturally.
